This course examines the powerful influence media and communications have socially, culturally and politically – a constantly evolving and hugely relevant topic. Students will gain a solid grounding in media history, theory and development, while examining current trends and debates, discovering new analysis techniques and research methods, and exploring media law and regulatory issues in relation to new and established media. Creative workshops will teach students how to produce industry-standard communications, journalism, video, photography, and social and digital media, as well as content for new and emerging platforms (including Web3 and the metaverse) – so they are able to tell stories, evaluate changes, critically reflect on the roles of consumers and creators and collaborate on a variety of media projects. Students will learn to create their own brand identity (utilising UGC, guerrilla marketing, social influencers and more) while sticking to a brief, and improve their project management, problem solving, strategic planning and leadership skills.
