At Lakeland University, your History major or minor will strengthen your diploma and indicate strong versatility and knowledge. Often, students double major in History and Education to become highly sought-after school teachers. History majors are also natural, attractive candidates for law school, among other graduate school programs. Understanding the past will help you comprehend the present and prepare for the future. History majors understand the world and their place in it.History students get a real chance to think about our world and the creation of their society in ways that perhaps other students don’t. At Lakeland, the study of History also involves getting out of the classroom and immersing yourself in real-world learning. If it’s an archeology class, students will go out and do archeology. If we are studying ethnic history, students will go to a Historical Research Center, which is full of millions of documents, and research the immigration history of local people. We understand the importance of learning by doing. That is why our Cooperative Education is all about hands-on learning outside the classroom. Students gain real-world knowledge and earn academic credit for hands-on professional work experience — and coursework is centered around these real-life experiences, situations and career goals.Lakeland students explore their interests and, when they graduate, feel confident they will find a career in which they are passionate.
